Every cent has a place
We calculate in cents. If a contribution has an odd cent, it goes to the charity share. A $4.99 contribution reserves $2.50 for clean water and $2.49 for the experiment. The Human Chain covers payment processing fees.

A few things to know.
Is support required to join?
No. Support is always optional. The first 250 individual Humans join free; paid places keep their normal price. No contribution is preselected. A free price confirmed when you open checkout is honored for that checkout’s payment window; your permanent number is assigned only after payment.
Am I donating directly to charity: water?
Optional support contributions are payments to The Human Chain. They are not direct donations to charity: water and are not presented as tax-deductible donations. We commit 50% of each eligible contribution to charity: water, subject to refunds and payment reversals. The Human Chain is an independent project and does not claim an official partnership with charity: water.
What happens if a payment is refunded?
A refund is allocated proportionally between the price of the place and the optional contribution. We recalculate the 50/50 split on the support that remains, giving any odd cent to clean water. Refunded or reversed amounts do not count as raised. Completed charity transfers remain visible as historical transfers.
Are earlier support payments included?
The charity commitment applies to contributions made through this Support + Charity flow. Earlier support payments are not retroactively counted as funds raised for clean water.
